A food-themed tour of Cagliari, we start in the enormous, buzzing San Benedetto market, the largest indoor market in Europe. Split over two levels it has an extraordinary range of fish and fresh produce, and is full of bustling shoppers and bantering vendors. There follows a packed day of walking, watching and eating, with stops including a visit to the Duomo, the extraordinary 18th century library at Cagliari university, taking in the breathtaking view from the Bastione and old town, some of the best shops for those in search of local handicrafts and then a lunch of traditional fare before finishing up with a gelato from the award-winning I Fenu.
